HOW TO USE THE QUAD CITIES FOOD SHELF

The Quad Cities Food Shelf is located at 8367 Enterprise Drive North in Mountain Iron, MN. We are open for unscheduled, drive through pick up every Wednesday and Thursday between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm. Some in person shopping options are available by appointment on Tuesdays between 2:30 and 4:00 pm. Please use the “Contact” link to make a reservation. There are no fees to use the Quad Cities Food Shelf but you must affirm that you meet income guidelines (see “FAQ” link for details). People only use the food shelf one time each calendar month.

When you arrive at the food shelf, go to the line up spot and when it is your turn, a volunteer will great you and ask for some basic information (size of your family, your address, how many seniors and children in your family, and a financial affirmation). After this, you will be given a slip of paper and then you can pull forward while an inside volunteer processes your information and verifies that you have not previously used the food shelf that month. When you are checking in, this is a good opportunity to let us know if you have special needs such as dietary restrictions, a need for diapers or specialized hygiene products, or need food that doesn’t require access to cooking facilities. We can’t always accommodate these requests but will definitely try if we are able.

The amount of food given is based upon family size. Specific food options are dependent on what has been donated or sent by Second Harvest that week. In general, everyone will receive a box of shelf stable items like peanut butter, canned goods and cereal. Sometimes we have things like laundry detergent and toilet paper that will be added to this box. In addition, there will be fresh produce, milk, eggs, bakery items and frozen meat and/or dairy products. When you pull up to the tables alongside the building and your eligibility has been confirmed, a volunteer will ask for the paper slip that you were given. Your food items will then be brought out and placed on the table for you to pack in your vehicle. Once you have everything packed, please move forward and exit so that the next person can receive their food items.
